Infrared Basics

T3 quartz lamps are used in many industrial heating applications, including adhesive drying/curing, silicone extrusion curing, and coil coating. T3 lamps contain a resistive tungsten filament encased in a quartz envelope. As voltage is applied, the lamp achieves full temperature within 2 - 3 seconds. The high temperature filament is capable of producing heat flux levels up to 200 watts/in2.

Features and benefits of T3 technology include the following:

Features Fact Benefits
Fast response T3 lamps reach 90% energy in 1 second Short lamp warm up time
Short process changeover time
Improved process control
T3 lamps cool to 10% energy in 2 seconds Short lamp cool down time
Fast energy dissipation means reduced chance of fire in line stoppage
High heat flux T3 systems are capable of 600 watts/in2 compared with 10 watts/in2 for hot air systems. IR can also be focused to increase heat flux in an area Increased line speeds
Small over footprint
Easy to create zones T3 lamps can be powered individually to create heating zones Improved process control
Save power by heating only the area that requires heat
Penetrating heat Short wave energy can penetrate into many coatings and plastics Faster heating of coatings and plastics Improves line speeds
Improved quality of cure for many coatings, as skinning effect is minimized
